Command Master Chief USS Michael Murphy
Command Master Chief Danforth
Command Master Chief Matthew E. Danforth is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He signed up for the Navy one year prior to graduating from Perry Traditional Academy in 1991 and immediately joined the Navy. Danforth attended Recruit Training and GSE “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois. His first assignment was to the Naval Air Station, Sigonella Sicily. His other assignments include USS LAKE ERIE (CG-70); Pearl Harbor Naval Brig, Ford Island, USS O’KANE (DDG-77); and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. He is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 134 Blue) in Newport, RI and holds an Associate in Arts from Chaminade University. Upon selection for Command Senior Chief and graduation from the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 61) in Newport, RI, he reported as the Senior Enlisted Leader on USS CROMMELIN (FFG 37). After completing two arduous 7th Fleet deployments he was selected for Master Chief. Master Chief Danforth reported in November 2010 as Command Master Chief in USS MICHAEL MURPHY (DDG 112). Master Chief Danforth’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia, and numerous campaign awards.
